Hiroshima Mon Amour

The collage My first journey to the east (see previous posts) was made based on two concepts: the inside and outside in architecture. It’s a part of a work I did about concepts related to architecture such as dimension, sound and light… It was a long time ago, so I don’t remember where I put the rest of the work… I just kept this collage, because it reminded me of the movie Hiroshima Mon Amour, one of my favourite movies ever. That’s why I posted this work here, and that’s why it was one of the first pictures I have sent to you.

Like in the movie, this picture is about balance between the inside with the bird and the outside with the city that surrounds and forms the background. This construction of the environment makes it possible for the bird to be in that position … in that weak balance.

In the movie our memory would be the inside, and the outside is what is really happening, and our human way of being in control of the weight of our decisions.

What can we remember and what are we able to forget?
How do we control that balance?
These are the questions that the movie raises for me.

I made that picture to answer to those questions.
We don’t control the background but we can change the place where we fit and we can build the structure to be in balance. And in one moment, like that bird, we can feel that we are in balance.
